Looking for the best way to view birds at The Wood River Wetlands? Join one of our experienced guides on a guided kayak tour!
The Upper Klamath Basin hosts around two-thirds of the migratory birds on the Pacific Flyway, and the Wood River Wetlands serve as a vital rookery for various species, including waterfowl, herons, eagles, egrets, shorebirds, pelicans, and many more. You'll be amazed by the sounds of these diverse species. Additionally, if you scroll down, you'll find a list of birds documented by our friend Dan Mitchell on the nearby Williamson River, where we also offer guided kayak tours.
During your tour at The Wood River Wetlands, you may also encounter a range of wildlife besides birds. It's common to spot beavers, marmots, raccoons, weasels, turtles, and other animals.
Be sure to book your tour early, as it is a favorite among visitors and often fills up quickly. We offer tours seven days a week, lasting approximately three hours.
Although the main nesting season runs from April to June, this tour remains popular throughout the summer since the birds are present year-round—except when the wetlands freeze over in winter. Each month brings new species to observe.
Our tours involve easy-to-moderate paddling. We provide experienced guides, kayaks, and all necessary gear. Binoculars are available for rent during checkout if needed.
We hope to see you there!
