The Wood River Klamath County. Upper Klamath Basin in Oregon Kayaking the wood river. kayak tour

Kayaking the Wood, Everyone's Favorite!

The nearly pristine waters of the Wood River at Jackson F. Kimball State Park in Oregon start flowing from springs that are fed by underground waters originating below Crater Lake National Park, which is located only a short distance to the north.

Our guides will put you in at the Wood River Headwaters where you will embark on a beautiful 3-hour float down the Wood River to the Wood River day-use area located in the Fremont-Winema National Forest. This river is known for its crystal clear waters and huge Brown Trout.

This class 1 river provides just enough water current and bends to keep your paddle moving as you enjoy your outdoor adventure.

Guided Kayak Tour starting at Jackson F. Kimball State Park

Camping & Horse Stalls

Jackson F. Kimball State Park is a pristine site located at the headwaters of the Wood River bordering the Fremont-Winema National Forest.  This stream flows from the pine forest into open meadow laced with picturesque quaking aspen, surrounded by the southern Cascade Mountains. Wood River offers fine fishing that can be accessed from the park by canoe. Jackson F. Kimball Park offers primitive camping next to a spring-fed lagoon at the beginning of this waterway. A walking trail connects the campground to the site where the clear spring bubbles from a rocky hillside. The park is a secluded place where you can contemplate the moment while relaxing in the whispering lodgepole pines. Horse stalls are available for use.

  • 10 primitive sites without water
  • Vault toilets
